Costa del Sol, Spain
Is the most famous stretch of coast of southern Spain which extends along most of the Mediterranean coast of
Andalusia, from Nerja, where the Costa Tropical meets the Costa del Sol, to the most southerly point in Spain at Tarifa, where the Costa de la Luz begins.

Malaga city is the chief centre and capital of the Costa del Sol where many millions of tourists fly in every year to its international airport “Pablo Picasso” to enjoy the more than 300 days a year of sunshine and about 161 kilometres (about 100 miles) of coastline full of clear water beaches and beautiful sandy coves.
The Costa del Sol’s beaches are not the only attraction to its visitors. For those tourists who prefer the rural tourism there is an authentic paradise to discover in the protected mountain range behind the coast and the hidden villages of the interior full of history and character like Ronda, Mijas, Ojén, Casares and
Frigiliana.

                                                                   Climate
The Costa del Sol’s proverbially mild climate is mainly due to its privileged geographical position between the Mediterranean sea and the Cordillera Bética or Andalusian Mountains which protect the coast as a backdrop from the north cold winds and the heat from the inner land, keeping an average temperature in winter of about 15ºC/59ºF, and in summer of 28ºC/81.7ºF, resulting in an average annual temperature of 23ºC/74ºF. The average water temperature on the Costa del Sol is 18°C/64°F (24°C/75°F) in August.

Sports

This fantastic climate and scenery favour the practice of sports all year round. The coast can offer its visitors an extensive variety of sporting activities such as swimming, scuba diving, sailing, water skiing, cycling, walking, hunting, fishing, tennis, and much more.
Costa del Sol is also known by many as the Costa del Golf due to its more than 40 Golf clubs surrounded with excellent housing developments where golfers of all levels and handicaps can enjoy playing a round of golf any month of the year.

                                                                Food and drink
The Costa del Sol, although catering for all nationalities and tastes, provides ample opportunity to sample the gastronomic delights of this region:

Tapas: is very popular as a mini snack and can be eaten at any time during the day.

Pescaito frito: small fried fish.
Deep-fried calamares (squid):
also popular in the rest of Spain.
Sardines:
grilled on open fires on the beaches.
Gazpacho:
a delicious cold soup made with tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, garlic, olive oil and a hint of vinegar. Normally it is only eaten in summer.
The Malaga wines, sweet wines, are the perfect aperitif or end to a delicious meal, alone or accompaniment to desserts.
Tropical fruits such as avocados, mangoes, oranges, lemons, melons and figs grow wild along the coast and inland.
