Costa Tropical Spain
The Costa Tropical is set between the Costa del Sol and the Almeria coast, and is a stretch of coastline taking its name from its sub-tropical climate as it cultivates avocadoes, mangoes, bananas and sugar cane.
It consists of around 100 kilometres of beaches and cliffs and offers some truly beautiful locations.  The towns set within the province of Granada are bathed by the warm waters of the Mediteranean, the average temperature is 20 degrees and there are 320 days of sunshine a year.

The Tropical Coast has a wealth of history to offer visitors without being overcrowded, as this Costa continues to be an ongoing discovery. The gastronomy is primarily fish, mixed fried fish, sardines and fish stews being the most popular dishes you will find which come highly recommended.
There are three main resort s within the Costa Tropical - Almuñecar, Salobreña and Motril.
Almuñecar is capital and is one of the most Spanish resorts along the whole of the south coast. It is a popular holiday destination for Spanish as it provides good leisure facilities and to date it has kept its original charm. Very popular in summer is the San Cristobal Beach with numerous restaurants and beachside bars.
From Almuñecar follow the coast to Velilla where you will find excellent beaches and an imposing watchtower that once stood guard and warned of the arrival of Arab ships in historical times. From here follow the N340 coastal road to Salobreña to discover isolated coves that are quiet all year round. It's tiny white pueblo dwellings rise over a rock mountain which is crowned by an ancient Arab castle. Head inland slightly to Motril, the second most important city in the province of Granada. Motril is a large and welcoming town which is dominated by the Shrine of Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza. The Encarnación, has a joint purpose of church and fortress, as historically, these areas have always been exposed to the attacks of Barbary pirates. It has 20km of coastline consisting of seven beautiful and very different beaches.  The western beach at Motril, has a port, nautical club and a nearby golf course.

La Herradura a sheltered bay, is rustic, pretty and unspoilt and located between the two attractive and affluent areas of Punta de la Mona and Cerro Gordo.
In a protected cove to the east of Punta de la Mona you will arrive at the impressive Marina del Este yacht harbour. Water sports and scuba diving are recommended here, given the variety of sea life and clear sea.
These plains, where sugar-cane for rum-making is cultivated, offer, together with the local capital of Motril, a string of little, charming villages like Molvízar and Itrabo. Further inland, the Güajares represent one of Andalusia's more difficult to access regions with its rough landscape and traditional charm.
