The Alpujarras Costa Tropical
The Alpujarra mountain region based at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, southernSpain’s tallest mountain, is quite possibly one of the most beautiful and wild areas of Europe. Life has remained pretty much unchanged in its traditional Moorish villages since they were established there hundreds of years ago by Moors fleeing the Castilian reign in the Capital of Granada, some 50 kms away.

The Moorish influences are apparent in the Berber style architecture of the flat roofed white washed houses, similar to those still found in the Atlas mountains of Morocco. You will see the fusion between Arab and Spanish influences in the villages intricate winding streets  were bright Andalusian flowers and peppers lie drying in the glorious sun. If you enter in to one of the small bustling cafes you can sample the regions finest mountain ham (jamon Serrano) with a glass of local wine.

Declared a national park by the Junta Andalucia, The Alpujarras have every thing on offer with in its diversely rich landscape. Its mix of sweeping gorges and lush valleys full of olive, almond and lemon groves makes it an excellent area for trekking and horse riding. Animal lovers will be able to see the mountain goats grazing in the pastures and bird enthusiasts will enjoy the rare sight of Eagles and Hoopoe amongst others.

Dominated by snow capped mountains yet with the Mediterranean coast only 35 ms away, it is possible to go from ski to surf within the hour. With its own micro climate it is often less humid than the sticky heat of the coast and enjoys clear blue skies nearly all year round.
